On Thursday, Noah graduated. Apparently during non-Covid times, there’s a ceremony and a suit. But in the time of Covid, there is only a parade. But it was a great parade! It was so fun, we decorated the car, and did a pretty good job, I might add. Both Matty and Madeline have some artistic talents! Then we got ready and headed to the southwest corner of Loose Park at 5:00. Very real post coming your way here, the good and the less than good! First of all, I forgot I was out of gas, easy to do since we never DRIVE anywhere anymore, so we had to make an unplanned stop. And then one sign flew off so we had to turn around. So we were pushing the time. Matty and I disagreed about which corner was the southwest one, he wanted to parallel park, I kept saying that we wouldn’t be able to see anything if he did, which resulted in him deciding that I should drive. So okay, we were finally off! The parade, as I said, was great! All the early years teachers were first (which Noah never really had) and then the whole Lower School was spread out on the hill. We had the sun roof open and Matty and I kept telling him to stand up, wave, and say thank you. And he would not! He just kept peeking his head out of the top. At one point, I stopped the car, and told him I wasn’t going til he stood up. We were yelling, he was yelling back. And then when we got through, he told us he got a bit emotional so he didn’t want to stand up. Well I felt like a real ass! We then followed the Martinovics to the Middle school, which was entertaining because Marin thought it was over, so a ton of cars ended up taking the long way to middle school! That was great too! The Middle School teachers were there, welcoming us. Then we drove BACK to the Lower School (the Clothiers went rogue at this point) and did the parade one more time, before we headed home. On the way, we stopped and hugged, Noah forgave his parents for being asses and we ordered Pizza Hut and had Sonic blasts.
I’ve known for awhile that I have to back off and let him do his thing, figure life out, and this was a great reminder. Alas, I still have to make sure he brushes his teeth, so who knows how far I really need to let go!
Our Lower School years were great. I remember when I dropped him off the first day of Kindergarten. He’s grown so much and we’ve made so many memories and friendships. Noah is our rock, dramatic and feels every emotion, but he is also the voice of reason and sanity when I need it. He is such a joy to be around!
